Te Kura Maori o Porirua welcomes new students and their whanau.
Te Kura Māori o Porirua is a Māori-language immersion school where the principal language of instruction is in Te Reo Māori.
As we do not have an enrolment zone, we welcome students from a wide catchment area. School buses transport students within the greater Porirua region.
Children who are wanting to enrol must already be able to converse in Te Reo Māori. Children usually acquire their Te Reo Māori language skills by speaking Te Reo Māori at home and/or by attending an immersion pre-school such as Te Kohanga Reo. We encourage you to consider ways to enhance the Te Reo skills of your whānau well before your child turns five.
Before enrolling your child, we ask that each whanau and their child meet firstly with a member of the Senior staff and a member of the Board of Trustees.
To make an appointment to visit the kura, please contact n.andrews@kura-porirua.school.nz
Enrolment packs are available from the school office or you can contact n.andrews@kura-porirua.school.nz
When you enrol, you will need to provide the following:
a) a completed enrolment form;
b) birth certificate;
c) immunisation records.
Classroom visits for new entrants are necessary to ensure children feel comfortable in the kura, with their classroom, teachers and other children prior to starting. Monday mornings are a good time for visits, but we are happy to negotiate other times if that is not convenient.
At the beginning of each term, a pōwhiri is held for all children starting kura. Details regarding the Pōwhiri will be discussed at the enrolment meeting.
Thank you for considering Te Kura Māori o Porirua for your child.
